Hollow bricks
Timeless Rarities - www.rarities.no - Last Updated: 15.04.2026
This is the first mould in Denmark without slots. The bricks are simply called "hollow" because they look like the later tube bricks with logo on the studs, but are completely hollow underneath missing the tubes. These kind of bricks are quite common to find around Europe, as they were made during a period LEGO expanded to lots of new countries. They were in production from 1956 until the introduction of the tube bricks in 1958.
There were multiple different hollow brick moulds with various types of bricks. Some had the mould number high up inside the brick like on the picture, while others had it in the middle, or had no number at all. We will not be going into these variations here.
It also appears that some 1x2 bricks with 1 slot was part of the hollow bricks mould. This was needed during the transition period from slotted to hollow bricks, and some were included in the 1236 and 1310 sets needed for the garage door.
Brick variations
Here is an overview of what bricks were available in this mould. The short lines crossing the outlines of the bricks are there to identify the slots in the bricks. 2x8, 2x10 and corner bricks were also made.
